Council Mission

Each year in May the Council begins a Discernment Process, where we search for new member to replace those whose term is ending.

The Pastoral Council serves the St. John Neumann community in a wide variety of ways.

To quote from the Mission Statement, our role is to

·        Nurture the spiritual growth and address the needs of the Catholic community of St. John Neumann

·        Encourage the development and use of gifts and talents for service to all

·        Create a welcoming atmosphere in which all people are lovingly accepted

·        Inspire a sprit of joy, learning, excitement, sharing, openness and love

We accomplish these goals in many different ways.  As a representative body serving the parishioners we participate in a variety of ministries and assist the staff.  We serve as the focal point for issues and concerns of the parish.  And we function as advisors to the pastor and staff on matters that affect us all.

Serving on the Pastoral Council is a special privilege, one that is taken very seriously by those who are called.  Each of us commits to a three-year term and members can serve a maximum of two consecutive terms.  In addition, we encourage input from our youth and they too can serve on the council (usually a one year commitment).

Selection of new Council members is accomplished through a Discernment Process.  Parishioners nominated by their peers, or who feel themselves called to serve, are invited to a series of meetings.  At these meetings the details of serving on the Council are outlined, questions are answered, and candidates are asked to participate in prayerful contemplation.  Each candidate explores their own relationship with God, the church, and the parish, and seeks the guidance of the Holy Spirit.  It is a truly wonder-full, personal experience, one where you honestly feel the Holy Spirit either encouraging you further or holding you back.
